Second Harvest

Every year, OAIA makes a donation in lieu of speakers’ gifts to an organization that is focused on environmental stewardship, human health and wellbeing or sustainability. We also consider how the organization aligns with our values of respect, diversity and inclusion, collaboration, integrity, accountability, and transparency.

This year we recognize the work of Second Harvest for their leadership in food rescue and waste reduction across Canada. Second Harvest is the country’s largest food rescue organization, dedicated to recovering surplus, edible food before it goes to waste and redistributing it to charities and non-profits. Their work not only reduces greenhouse gas emissions but also helps fight hunger and support communities in need. Through their innovative programs and partnerships, Second Harvest is creating a more sustainable food system and demonstrating the powerful impact of environmental and social responsibility in action.
